Lowndes VINELink Coverage
Alabama VINELink is a custody-status and notification system. It can be useful for a Lowndes County jail or Alabama prison custody question when the person appears in the live system. It is not a Lowndes County release-record archive. It does not replace the sheriff, the jail, the Lowndes court record, ADOC, ABPP, BOP, or ICE.
Coverage must be read carefully. The Lowndes County Sheriff's Office website did not show a public web roster or 24-hour release feed during the research sweep, but the county does point users to the official sheriff app for current information. VINELink can be a parallel custody-notice path, especially when a person is still in custody and a notification needs to be set before release. If VINELink does not find the person, the result may mean a name mismatch, no current record, nonparticipation, data lag, or deletion after release.
VINELink is a release-alert tool, not final proof of every Lowndes County release or every past custody event.
Alabama VNS and VINELink
Alabama users may see several related labels: VINE, VINELink, and the Alabama Victim Notification System. The public search and registration interface is VINELink, while ABPP and ADOC also point to Alabama VNS resources. That local naming matters because a person checking a Lowndes County release may start at ABPP, ADOC, the state VNS page, or the national VINELink entry and still be working with the same notification layer.

Search Lowndes VINELink
A VINELink search should be person-specific. Use the most exact name or ID available, then compare any result with the date of birth, custody location, offender ID, and agency context shown in the record. Name-only searches can produce multiple matches or no match. When the person was booked in Lowndes County, also keep the jail release path open because a local jail release may be documented by the sheriff, court, or jail record even after a VINELink record disappears.
- Open VINELink and select Alabama.
- Choose the search-for-someone or offender-search function.
- Enter the person's full first and last name or ID number.
- If exact search fails, try partial-name searching where the tool allows it.
- Complete any captcha, sign-in, or verification step shown by the site.
- Select the matching person from the results, using custody location and identifiers to avoid a false match.
- Open the record details and note custody status, facility, release information, and notification options.

Lowndes VINELink Fields
VINELink's general help states that VINE tracks in-custody status and date of release only. It does not provide historical data. A released result may show release status and date while the record remains in the system, but the general help says records are deleted approximately two weeks after release. That limit is important in Lowndes County because the sheriff's public web page did not provide a visible release archive during the sweep.

Register Lowndes Release Alerts
Notification registration works best before the release event occurs. Search for the person, open the correct record, and register through the available "Get Notified" or similar prompt. Use contact methods that can be reached at any hour because custody changes may happen outside normal office hours. The PIN step matters. VINE may require a PIN to confirm receipt, change a notice, or stop a notification.
- Search for the person in Alabama VINELink and open the correct record.
- Choose the notification or "Get Notified" option.
- Add the available contact methods, such as email, phone call, text, or TTY.
- Enter a four-digit PIN that can be remembered.
- Complete registration and save the confirmation details.
- Respond to future calls or prompts as required so the system knows the message was received.
VINELink's general support information says standard transaction timing is every 15 minutes for jails and twice daily for prisons, subject to variation. Use that as general VINE guidance, not as a promise that Lowndes County jail data updates on that exact schedule.
Read a Lowndes Release Result
A release result should be matched to the custody source. If the person was in the John Hulett Detention Facility / Lowndes County Jail, a VINELink release notice may help confirm a custody change, but the jail or sheriff can still be needed for the release reason, release time, bond status, transfer status, and booking number. If the person was in ADOC custody, ADOC may have shown the minimum release date, parole status, or other sentence fields while the person was still current in the public search.
Do not assume a missing VINELink result proves the person was never in custody. VINELink general help says historical data is not available, and records may be deleted after release. A negative result may also come from spelling, a partial name, a different agency, or federal custody. If the person was transferred to another county, ADOC, BOP, or ICE, VINELink may not be the right final source.
Lowndes App and VINELink
Lowndes County has an app-first local information pattern. The official sheriff page directs users to download the Lowndes County Sheriff app for current information, and the app listings identify the official iOS and Android app. WSFA reported at launch that the app included a way to keep up with county inmates. That makes the app a local channel to check along with VINELink, especially when the county website does not publish a visible web roster or recent-release feed.
The app and VINELink should not be treated as the same source. The app is the sheriff's local public-safety channel. VINELink is a custody-status and notification system. If the app shows current custody information and VINELink sends a release alert, confirm with the jail before relying on either one for the release reason. If the app does not show the person and VINELink has no result, use the court and records request path rather than assuming a final status from silence.
Lowndes VINELink Fallback
When VINELink cannot confirm the release, move to durable records. For a county jail booking, ask the sheriff or jail for the booking and release record. A narrow request can ask for the booking number, release date and time, release reason, charges, bond status, court case number, and hold or detainer status if public and retained. The Lowndes research did not find a public county web retention rule, so the records request and court file matter after a current tool stops showing the person.
For an ADOC sentence, use ADOC records when the public current-inmate search no longer carries the person. For supervision after release, use ABPP. For a court-triggered release, use the Lowndes Circuit Clerk or Alacourt to find the order, disposition, sentence, or probation event. VINELink is strongest while the person is in active custody and before the alert is needed. It is weaker after the public notice window has passed.
Timing also affects the fallback. VINELink general help describes standard update cycles, but it also warns that timing can vary by facility. A recent Lowndes County release may need direct jail confirmation before travel, pickup, court action, or supervision reporting is treated as settled.
VINELink Limits in Lowndes
VINELink does not cover every custody system. Federal prisoners should be checked through the Federal Bureau of Prisons Inmate Locator. Immigration custody should be checked through ICE ODLS. A local court disposition should be checked through Lowndes County court records or Alacourt. A supervision question should be checked through ABPP, especially when parole, mandatory release, probation, or absconder status is involved.
VINELink also does not show the full release record. It may not show the release reason, court case number, bond disposition, detainer status, property notation, or booking-photo availability. Those facts belong to the jail record, court record, ADOC record, ABPP record, or another agency record. Confirm Lowndes VINELink Alerts
After a VINELink alert arrives, confirm the result with the agency that controls the record. For a county jail release, ask the jail whether the person was released to the community, transferred to ADOC, transferred to another agency, held on a detainer, or released by court order. When a release alert conflicts with a roster, court record, or agency response, use the most direct current source. VINELink is valuable because it can push notice when custody changes. It is weaker for the full reason behind the change. Records requests fill that gap when a public search no longer shows the person or when the release details are needed in a precise form.
