BOP Release Paths
No Federal Bureau of Prisons facility was identified in Lowndes County during the research sweep. That does not end the federal custody question. Lowndes County can be the place of arrest, court contact, or temporary local booking before a person is moved through U.S. Marshals transport or federal prison custody. A county jail release that mentions a federal hold, USMS, or federal transfer should lead to federal court or BOP research, not to the ADOC state-prison search.
The BOP Inmate Locator states that it locates federal inmates incarcerated from 1982 to the present. It may show a federal release date or a status such as "Released" or "Not in BOP Custody." BOP also warns that release dates may change because of sentence reviews and recalculations, including First Step Act issues. That warning matters for people tracking a projected federal release from a Lowndes-related case.

Search the BOP Locator
BOP searches can use numbers or name details. Number searches may use a BOP Register Number, DCDC Number, FBI Number, or INS Number. Name searches use first, middle, and last name along with race, age, and sex. Search results can show name, register number, age, race, sex, release date, and location. A federal release date may appear even when the Lowndes County jail has no current public web feed for the person.

- Use full name details for a name search, then narrow by age, race, and sex if needed.
- Read the release date as a BOP record, not as a county jail release record.

BOP Versus ADOC

It is enough to explain that a federal hold changes the lookup route.
For immigration issues, federal does not always mean BOP. ICE ODLS is the separate immigration custody locator. A person can be released from county custody and then moved to ICE custody, or released after an ICE hold is resolved.
